An Announcement
This will be my final movie review. Last night I went to see Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy. I have not seen any of the previous films nor read any of the books. I thought that it was funny, emotionally true, and with a lot of a clever character cameos. (Emma Thompson's turn as the gynaecologist, for one, and Hugh Grant playing Hugh Grant for another.) There was no unearned sentimentality, although clearly, the ending was sentimental as hell and I may possibly have had something in my eye during the campfire scene. The fast forward from the orienteering trip to the Christmas concert was actually cleverer than any of the structural shenanigans in We Live In Time. I thought it was an excellent movie and enjoyed it very much indeed and clearly have no credibility or integrity left as a reviewer.
